What kind of workout makeup lasts?

Wearing makeup during a workout may not be your first preference (and if it is, that’s totally fine!), but sometimes you may find yourself in a situation that requires you to either get your sweat session in with your makeup on or spend valuable minutes of your day removing it pre-workout. With the right products and a little bit of preparation, you can have your makeup stay in place during your workout and still look fine once you’re done. Lunchbreak workouts have never been so low-stress! Here’s the products of workout makeup that will last through your day and workout!

The best starting point where foundation is concerned is to look for long-wearing formulas. Estee Lauder Double Wear  comes in a wide variety of shades to give almost anyone the perfect match, and it boasts 15 hours of wear. It stands up to heat, humidity, and whatever you throw at it (like cardio). Another promising choice is the Smashbox Studio Skin 15 Hour Wear Foundation, which is also designed to stay in place for 15 hours. It provides medium to full light-diffusing coverage while keeping skin hydrated.

Even worse than your foundation streaking as you perspire is eye makeup dripping into your eyes because you’re sweating. Urban Decay 24/7 Liquid Liner tends to stay put because it’s waterproof. There are 11 shades to choose from, in matte, glossy, and shimmery finishes. Not a fan of liquid liners? The 24/7 line includes a Glide-on Eye Pencil that starts out creamy but dries to a stay-put, waterproof finish.

If anything’s prone to disappearing completely during a workout, it’s probably the concealer under your eyes. It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer is full-coverage and waterproof, and it doesn’t settle into lines and wrinkles. As a bonus, this formula uses hydrolyzed collagen, vitamin C, and vitamin K for anti-aging benefits, so it’ll stick around and make you look radiant at the same time.

No matter which shadow you use (though finely-milled products will stick around better), you’re going to want to put a primer down first. Urban Decay’s Primer Potion and Too Faced Shadow Insurance both lock color into place. These are meant to intensify colors and keep shadow on for up to 24 hours without creasing or fading. As long as you don’t vigorously rub your eyes with a towel, those shadows are probably not going anywhere.

If you prefer to skip multiple steps when it comes to your eyeshadows, look for a waterproof or water-resistant long-wearing cream shadow like a MAC Paint Pot or Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo Metal 24-Hour Eyeshadow instead of using both a primer and a shadow. Each of these formulas comes in several shades, so you won’t have to feel limited to a certain makeup look on gym days.

Cheek color is another thing that may fade away during a workout, though you may not notice at first if your cheeks get flushed from the exercise. Benefit Cosmetics Cheek & Lip Stains and Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush both come in several color selections and are excellent at sticking around no matter what you do throughout the day. The stain can double as a lip color; the opacity won’t necessarily stick around, but a hint of color will most likely survive your workout (even with drinks of water).

Mascara in your eyes can burn, and the sweat doesn’t help! Eyeko Sport Waterproof Mascara was created just for those situations where you have to work out with makeup on. It’s waterproof, sweat-proof and is meant to stay on and make your lashes look beautiful and voluminous for 24 hours. A cheaper alternative is the Maybelline Full ’n Soft Mascara in the waterproof version.

Worrying about your makeup should never stop you from getting an intense workout in on your lunch break or right after work when you don’t have time to wash your face before hitting the treadmill or weight racks. If you feel your best with a little bit of foundation or concealer on, or a little eye makeup to accentuate your features, just look for long-wearing and/or waterproof products for the best results.
