One of the most scenic locations is Starrs Mill. You can access the park from Hwy 74 and from Hwy 85 (115 Waterfall Way). Both sides give a little different perspective. Of course, wait until the rainy season is over. There is so much history to discuss with the kids. Can you imagine our Fayette County ancestors bringing their own corn crop to a local mill to have cornmeal made to make cornbread to eat with beans all winter? A picnic table is available if you care to bring a sack lunch. If able to spend more time, you might consider fishing or resting on a blanket to reflect on this Fayette treasure. Do not let another year go by without taking your family to Starrs Mill for a photoshoot. Use caution around the rocks and falls, especially with little ones.
Line Creek Nature Area
Another Fayette County hot spot for family photos is Line Creek Nature Area. Not only are there multiple photo opportunities, but you can make an afternoon of family fun with hiking and wading in the water. Once you park and walk down to Line Creek, it feels like you are far away from our bustling towns. Photos can be particularly beautiful in autumn when the leaves turn to a multitude of colors. In the spring, you might catch a native azalea blooming as an interesting backdrop to your family photo. If Fido wants to get in on the family photo, a leash is required. Fishing and meeting areas are available. Remember, rocks are slippery when wet, so use caution.
Docks at Lake Kedron
If you are short on time, your family or group can pop down to the docks at Lake Kedron located on Peachtree Parkway between Interlochen Drive and Peninsula Drive. Plenty of parking and easily accessible for family members of any age. Once again, fishing is available here. Don’t forget that all-important fishing permit.
Turnipseed Nursery Farms
Your family might consider a true hidden gem, Turnipseed Nursery Farms at 685 South Glynn Street, Fayetteville. An outdoor studio is available for photographers which includes many garden rooms and old barn buildings which make excellent backdrops for photos. Your family will enjoy walking the grounds, feeding the ducks, and, of course, taking pictures. A trip to this local treasure is well worth the fee they charge for a photo session.
Lake Horton Park
Last but not least is Lake Horton Park located at 1275 Antioch Road, Fayetteville, GA. This beautiful 780-acre lake makes a massive backdrop for family photos. There are almost three miles of walking trails. Picnic areas are available for rental through the Fayette County recreation department.
