Project love provides holiday meals for seniors

feature_FayetteSeniorservicesThanks to the generosity of Fayette County residents, last year the comfort and joy of having a holiday meal was made possible for hundreds of homebound seniors in the community.

Fayette Senior Services, Inc., a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, delivers more than 40,000 meals annually to older adults who are unable to prepare hot, nutritious meals for themselves. The meals are delivered by a team of dedicated volunteers who deliver much more than a meal each week. Quite often, these dedicated volunteers also provide the only social contact a homebound senior may regularly receive. The Meals on Wheels program is a needs-based service that enables seniors to live independently in their own home.

Fayette Senior Services receives federal, state, and local government funding for the program; however, such funds only cover the cost of weekly meals and do not provide for additional holiday meals or “shelf meals” that seniors can have on hand in the event a meal cannot be delivered to them due to extreme weather conditions. Contributions to the Project Love Campaign help to purchase these extra meals as well as any doctor-ordered Ensure® supplements for clients with special dietary needs.

For as little as $10, citizens and businesses can support the Meals on Wheels program by purchasing a two-day holiday meal pack or a five-day meal pack for $25. There is no limit to the number of meal packs that can be purchased. Donation forms are available at or at Fayette Senior Services Life Enrichment Center, located at 4 Center Drive in Fayetteville. Checks should be made payable to Fayette Senior Services, Inc.

“We sincerely appreciate the long-time public support we have received for our Meals on Wheels program. Making sure that no senior goes hungry for the holidays is truly a project of love and we are blessed to live in such a caring community,” says Executive Director Debbie Britt. The cost to provide the additional meals is approximately $30,000.

Fayette Senior Services, Inc., offers adults age 50 and better, the opportunity to be involved in a variety of social, leisure, educational, wellness and life-enriching activities at its beautiful Life Enrichment Center. Since 1978, the organization has also provided social services that help older adults improve their quality of life and maintain their independence. Social services include: Meals on Wheels, Adult Day Referral Service, Information and Referral, Transportation Services, In-Home Personal Care/Homemaker Services, Case Management, Home Repair/Maintenance.
