Dawn Oparah Is New Executive Director of Fayette FACTOR

Fayette FACTOR’s Board of Directors has named Dawn Oparah as the new Executive Director, replacing Becky Smith who retired at the end of June.Dawn Oparah

Dawn is no stranger to the human services field. She has a long history with FACTOR as a board member, board chair and collaborative member for the past 18 years. She has served in many capacities in the Fayette Community as both a consultant and as a volunteer.

Dawn is a co-founder for AVPRIDE, Inc., and served as its board chair and member for 13 years and a consultant to the organization for seven years.  Also, she was actively involved with the Fayette Visioning Initiative and served as a Fayette Chamber board member for six years.

Dawn has served on numerous community committees, boards and advisory groups throughout her 30-year history in Fayette County. Prior to taking on her new role at FACTOR, she was the Vice President and Co-Owner of Amadi Leadership since 1995 where she served as a consultant for schools, businesses and non-profit organizations.

“Serving as the Executive Director for Fayette FACTOR allows me to do what I love doing, working for the health and well-being of Fayette County citizens,” Dawn says. “It also affords me the opportunity to work in my gifts of community engagement.”

Her goal is to build on the legacy of the former executive director. In doing that she wants to increase community engagement and participation to close gaps in human service needs.  She would like to look at local data to strategically guide community stakeholders in solution focused approaches.

In order to be successful in connecting resources to community needs she says she will need the investment from community leaders in understanding conditions that could potentially threaten the community well-being. She jokingly says to her fellow community leaders “I will be reaching out to you, so expect my calls and emails.”

In all seriousness she said “The best way to keep Fayette the best community ever is to have an involved, invested and informed group of leaders and stakeholders who have the ability to help create positive change.”
