How to do your makeup like a star

You can create a dramatic or a subtle look, it all just depends on where you are going.

You can create a dramatic or a subtle look, it all just depends on where you are going.

Is living in the “new Hollywood” inspiring you to glamorize your look? Looking like a star takes more time than the average morning routine, but anyone can add a little big screen magic to their look. Here’s 5 tips on how to do your makeup like a star.

Prep Your Body
Star power isn’t just for your face. It’s a head-to-toe glam that requires you to get your whole body in on the action. To be your most glowing self, remove the dull, dead skin cells to create a smooth canvas for your makeup and avoid sunless tanner streaks. Try a peel like AquaReveal™ Satin Bright Soft Water Peel for Face and add baking soda to your body wash on your washcloth.

Don’t skip moisturizer. It’ll help create a canvas for any makeup, body bronzers, or highlighting products. Moisturize regularly several days before an event (except the day you apply sunless tanner) for best results.
If you have a special event, apply your favorite sunless tanner a day or two before. Body bronzer can wait until the day of, but be sure to allow plenty of time for application, perfecting, and drying. Add a highlighting powder to your shins, shoulders, and décolletage with a stippling brush.

Frame Your Face: Brows and Smile
Since your brows create the frame for your whole face, define them. If you have more than a few strays and need some serious shaping help, the Anastasia Beverly Hills Beauty Express for Brows and Eyes kit has everything you need (except brow scissors and tweezers). Just have a few strays and need to fill in? The Anastasia Brow Wiz gives a natural, yet defined, look.

If you feel like you could use a brighter smile like the celebrities on the red carpet always seem to have, try an at-home treatment that won’t cost hundreds of dollars. You can get whiter teeth in an hour with Crest 3D White 1-Hr Express Whitestrips, but if you have more time or your teeth are sensitive, try the Luxe Professional Effects Whitestrips instead.

Facial Contouring and Highlighting
There’s probably not a star out there who doesn’t contour and highlight. Smashbox’s Step-by-Step Contour Kit will walk you through the process of sculpting your cheekbones, nose, and jawline.

Already have several powders you could use? Use an angled brush to blend a cool-toned brown powder that’s a shade or two darker than your skin tone to your temples, sides of your nose, under your cheekbones, along your jawline, and under your chin. Use a lighter brown or beige shade that’s a shade or two lighter than your skin tone to the bridge of your nose, center of your forehead, along the tops of your cheekbones, on your chin, and just above your cupid’s bow. Blush and bronze as desired.

Apply a Light, Smoky Eye
The best way to mesmerize the crowd with your eyes? Using a dark shadow, shade at the lash line and gradually fade up to a shade that’s lighter than your skin tone near the brow bone, then blend like you mean it with a fluffy domed brush like the MAC 217. Mimic the same pattern on the lower lash line, tapering in at the inner corner. Line with black kohl liner, apply false lashes to the outer corners, cover the lash band with liquid liner, then curl all the lashes and apply a light coat of mascara to blend the natural and false lashes.

Get Sleek Waves
Pull out those large hot rollers and sweep all your hair over one shoulder. Roll the front section up and back to create the Old Hollywood “swoop,” and then stagger the other curlers throughout the length of the hair, some at temple length, some a few inches from the ends, and others about halfway up the length of the hair. Let the rollers cool, then carefully remove them, twisting the hair back and away from your face. Gently brush through the curls to loosen, then spray with a flexible hairspray.

This may be a bit too much of a process for everyday life, but you can use bits and pieces of the process when you want to feel more glamorous on an average day. A brighter smile or a good hair day can make you feel so much better, even without all the other steps.
