Maynard Brown as a teenager

Maynard Griggs Brown celebrated her 107th birthday on February 7, surrounded by family and friends. Maynard Brown appeared on the cover of Fayette Woman magazine in June, 2010.

She was born and has lived her entire life in Fayette County, where she raised her family and influenced countless students and mentored many teachers over her 40-year career teaching in Fayette County schools.

Most of her life, she lived in the same house off Ebenezer Road, built in 1912. She attended Ebenezer School and Fayette High School, and her first teaching assignment was in a one-room school house that sat at the corner of Robinson Road and Highway 54 in what is now Peachtree City.

A lifelong member of Ebenezer Methodist Church, Maynard credits her faith with seeing her through years of joy and trials. Her family and friends believe she is a kind, compassionate, and strong woman who continues to inspire others.
