Grow Your Own Tomatoes and Peppers and Help Fayette County 4-H

As spring temperatures begin to warm up the soil, many of us are busy studying seed catalogs and dreaming about eating luscious homegrown tomatoes and sweet peppers this summer. Our Fayette County 4-H students are making vegetable gardening easy for you this year. Club members have been potting up tomato and sweet pepper seeds to grow seedlings that you can purchase and plant right in your garden. Even if you have never gardened before, these hardy and disease-resistant plants will not disappoint.  You can order seedlings now, and they will be ready for pick up and planting on May 1.

The 4-H’ers are offering the Celebrity Supreme tomato.  This is a superior and tasty tomato with outstanding disease resistance. These determinant (bush) tomatoes will bear masses of big (8 oz) fruit that are very uniform and resistant to cracking. You can purchase a one pint tomato or sweet pepper plant for $4.00 or a 3-pack of tomatoes or peppers for $10.00 or a mix of 3 plants for $10.00. As an added bonus, you get a free cookbook with a purchase of 3 or more plants! You can grow these superior plants in the ground, in a raised bed or in a container.
