Subtle glamour for any occasion

Do you wonder what it is about Angelina Jolie’s sultry stare that makes you look twice? It’s a more natural pin-up look that’s perfect for everyday or even special occasions, like weddings. It’s a go-anywhere type of look that will play up your natural beauty with just a smidge of drama on the eyes.

First, select two matte shadow shades—one slightly lighter than your skin tone and one a shade or two darker. Take a large brush and apply the lighter color from lash line to brow bone, then take a smaller fluffy brush and apply the darker shade to the crease.

To achieve the cat eye with ease, use a black gel liner and a stiff angled brush. Gently tap the brush into the product to coat the bristles. Line the top lash line completely in a thin line without extending past the outer edge of the lashes. Start in the middle and feather your way out, then go back and fill in the inner section so that your top lid is completely lined. Close one eye and imagine another line extending from the outer corner of the eye to the tip of your eyebrow. Decide how far along that imaginary line you’d like for your eyeliner to extend and make a small dot there with the tip of the brush. Connect that dot to the outer corner of the eye at an angle, then draw another line from the dot to the outer quarter of the upper lashes. Fill in the resulting thin triangle. Smooth out the line so that it appears to get thicker from the inner to the outer corner before it flicks upward and tapers off again. Tight-line the upper and lower lashes with black.

Smudge the dark shadow along the lower lash line to give the illusion of a shadow under full lower lashes. Finish with a coat or two of volumizing mascara or false lashes, focusing on the outer lashes to extend the cat eye effect.

This look begs for high, sculpted cheekbones. With a matte shade that is slightly darker than your skin tone (in a pinch, you can use the darker shadow you used in your crease), draw a faint line from your ear to just shy of the corner of your mouth. Blend downward with a fluffy blush brush, buffing the color out until there is no longer a visible line. With a shade lighter than your skin (you can use the lighter shadow shade), go just above your cheekbone, parallel to the darker line, and blend. Use a sheer pink or peach blush on the apples of your cheeks.

For lips, go for either matte or a lipstick with a very light sheen. If you have cool undertones, choose nude with a hint of pink. Women with warm undertones should pair a nude that offers a hint of peach. Lip liner is optional but can make your lips look fuller. Choose one in a shade that matches your lips and trace just outside of your natural lip line. Dab clear gloss in the middle of the bottom lip to make them appear even more enticing.
