Every One of Us Has a Story

Projects for Sanity

I’m a “project” girl. I always have some kind of thing planned either for the kids or around the house. It’s my own personal way of staying sane. My husband has this way cool job. He’s a marine biologist and always comes home from work with interesting stories. I reply with “I vacuumed the lint tray in the dryer.” He is always the hit of the party telling stories of swimming with sharks or holding down dolphins. I have come to accept it. I’m a stay-at-home mom and, even though I never would have thought it, I love my job. I’m raising people here! Even so I need things to fill my time other than planning meals and watching Dora.

I have found that I really love to refinish and repurpose old furniture and give it a new life. This allows my creative side to wander, doesn’t cramp my very small budget, and gives me a sense of accomplishment when I’m done. I think that all moms no matter what we do, need to find a creative outlet and remember the person we were before the little ones arrived and gave us the “mom” title. I love seeing how other mom’s spend their small amount of free time so if you have some creative ideas post them here.

These are pictures of my most recent attempt.  I took an old garage worktable that was beat up and covered in cobwebs and turned it into a storage unit for the living room.  Some paint, some stain, and a little elbow grease was all it took.

About Colleen Schreiber
We relocated to Peachtree City 6 years ago for my husband's job and I immediately fell in love with the area and its people. I write in my spare time but spend most of my days being a full-time mom to two girls ages 9 and 3 and one very needy Bassett Hound.
