When most kids decide to try something new, they take a few small steps first. Not Nora Boylan. Nora had never run except around her own back yard before last October. Then, out of the blue and with no prompting by parents or teachers, she decided she wanted to run in her school’s 5K – and that she wanted to win a medal. She started practicing and, on race day, found herself with the first-place medal for her age group. The win – and the race, itself – were such fun, she decided to keep it up. She’s since chalked up a total of seven first-place finishes and recently placed first overall for her age group. She’s also a straight-A student at Fayetteville Elementary School and she sold 500 boxes of Girl Scout cookies this year. Nora’s dad says she is a determined, focused, and brilliant girl who will undoubtedly be an amazing woman.
Nora likes to read, watch comedy videos, and play sports. In the future, she wants to be a teacher and an author. She also says she wants to travel every year so that she can learn about possible settings for her books.
