Ice Skating at Centennial Olympic Park

Lake Sullivan on the west side of Indianapolis was the winter pond of my youth. We would sit on its tree-lined bank, lace up our skates, and bump over its frozen ripples, seeking smooth ice to practice our spins or play a game of whip.

Lace up those skates and head out on the ice at Centennial Olympic Park.
Until the end of January, Centennial Olympic Park offers free style ice skating for all ages and skill levels. In its 13th November through January season, it is Atlanta’s only outdoor ice skating rink. This is real ice, folks, with theatrical lighting and music to add to the fun.
Admission is $7 per person for 90 minutes of skate time. Skate rental is an additional $2. A tent covers the entire operation, and there are bleachers for spectators and lockers for storing your belongings.
The skating rink is open daily but hours vary so check the Centennial Olympic Park website for times. There are lots of families enjoying the fun here on any evening or weekend. If you want to get a good sense of the rink activity, check out the web cam on their website.
Remember, the rink closes January 31 for the season — so, pack up the kids and get going. Brianna and I can’t wait to take our turn on the ice.
