This recipe really doesn’t have measurements. As my mom says, “I just make it.” Use your favorite apple. We like Granny Smith but many varieties work. The trick is in the water: don’t add too much or you will have apple soup instead of homemade applesauce!
“Your apples will break up easily and smooth if the sugar is added after the apples are cooked,” Mom says. “ If you want to keep the sauce chunky, add the sugar during the cooking process. Start with just a little sugar and cinnamon. You can always add more.”
- 6 apples peeled, cored and diced
- Small amount of water (don’t cover the apples- just a little in the bottom of the pan)
- Cover and cook over medium temperature until apples are very soft (about 15 minutes) and can be stirred and mashed to sauce consistency.
- Season to taste with sugar and cinnamon.
