Gretchen Tegtman is hardly new to the custom window and bedding world. Her store, which she co-owns with her mother, has been part of the Fayetteville community for 32 years and part of Gretchen’s family for more than two decades. She, herself, joined more than 20 years ago. Yet part of what keeps the business thriving is a passion for keeping up with the trends and innovations in the home decorating industry.
“Solar shades have become very popular for residences,” says Gretchen, “and we’re seeing a return to large floral prints and bright colors. Mixing textures is really in right now, too. People are ready to be happy and have fun. Accents are a great way to do that.”
One of the store’s newest additions is a line of semi-custom bedding that provides a good in-between option for folks who want something different but aren’t quite ready to go fully custom.
“We can also just do custom shams and throw pillows,” she explains. “Or a dust ruffle that actually fits properly. Because somehow the mass produced ones never quite do.”
Of course, the store’s main specialty remains custom window treatments. Gretchen believes the store’s continued success has to do with their commitment to working with the client to create a truly personal design.
“When you’re ready to do your windows – or any custom work, really – you want quality materials and great service,” she says. “It’s an opportunity for you to show off your individual style. You want someone who will listen to you and make your personal vision a reality. We work in a wide range of styles from traditional to contemporary and everything in between. It’s all about the client.”
“I love going out on installations and attend every one. It’s such fun to see things come together. I get hugged a lot.”
