From Sarah Heath, J. Andrew’s Store Manager and Bridal Consultant, here’s 6 tips for picking your dream dress:
Make an Appointment if You Can
J. Andrew’s loves their walk-in clients, but certain days can get incredibly busy. If at all possible, book your appointment in advance so that Sarah or one of the other fabulous consultants will have a block of time, usually an hour and a half, reserved especially for you and can ensure you have the exclusive attention you deserve.
Give Yourself Plenty of Time
Remember that, unlike off-the-rack shops, designers need time to craft your perfect dress and make any customizations. You’ll also have alterations once the dress arrives in-store. To have access to the broadest range of gowns, begin shopping eight to 10 months in advance if possible. But know that J. Andrew’s is there to help if your timeframe is shorter. They’ve even managed same-day dresses in emergencies!
Come Armed With Dates & Numbers
You don’t need to know your measurements or even a firm number of bridesmaids, but you will want to know your price range and have a date set before your appointment. This information helps your consultant know which dresses to suggest and helps you avoid the disappointment of falling in love with a style that’s way out of your price range or unavailable on your timeline.
Bring the Right People
This one can be a bit of a balancing act. After all, it can be tough to pick who to include on this special trip. Make sure to choose friends and family who will be honest but supportive of you and your desires. And remember that you will have lots of other opportunities to include loved ones in your planning activities. This day should be all about you!
Share Your Vision
If you have a Pinterest board, a folder of magazine clippings, or another set of visuals, bring them along! If not, don’t fret. The first thing your consultant will do is get to know you: your personality, your style, and your comfort level. The J. Andrew’s team knows there’s a perfect gown for every bride and they love making those matches.
Relax and Have Fun
Addressing and stuffing 400 invitations? Work. Trying on gowns that make you feel gorgeous? That should be nothing but fun and memory-making. If you come in prepared and trust the pro at your disposal, that’s exactly what it will be. And you’ll soon be posting your very own “I found the dress!” photo on your social media pages!
“I love that we can change a neckline, make a train more dramatic or whatever will make the dress right for the bride. I recently had a bride who found the perfect dress, but wanted to add flutter sleeves to a strapless gown. Another paired the bodice from one gown with the skirt of another. We were able to make it happen and it didn’t break the bank. The customization options are endless and our consultants know which designers can make which changes as well as how long it will take.”
